Guiding

"Most Argentine fisherman and experienced North American Fisherman readily acknowledge that the best know and longest established fly fishing guides in Patagonia are Richard Ameijeiras…."

William Lietch - Argentine Trout Fishing

Richard Ameijeiras started guiding in Northern Patagonia before guiding in Patagonia was a profession.  His reputation as a fly angler in Northern Pagtagonia's picturesque tourism capital of Bariloche led traveling anglers to his door.  From there his passion for the outdoors and skill as an angler turned his passion into a career.  It's a path he's taken seriously helping to form the area's first guides association and serving as it's first president.  His love of fish led him down the unpopular route of getting catch-and-release regulations placed on the upper Rio Limay, a move that likely saved big fish on the legendary water.  Today only a handful of other guides in Patagonia have the depth of experience and river knowledge Richard possesses.  As much as this knowledge benefits anglers on the water, its the years of stories and anecdotes that one hears through the day the make the trip a day to remember.

Rio Limay

Richard's go to fishery for big fish and sweeping landscapes.  The Rio Limay is one of Northern Patagonia's legendary waters with its magical blue water and the stark contrast of the cathedral peaks jabbing into the sky across the broad valley.  Richard's intimate knowledge of the river and the local characters mean that a day spent fishing the Limay is often a cultural journey that includes access to some largely untouched water.

Rio Pichi Leufu

An often overlooked fishery the Rio Pichi Leufu is a tributary of the Rio Limay that cuts across the sparsely populated steppe through rough sheep fences and dirt roads.  The upper stretch of the river has lovely spring creek characteristics and some unbelievably large fish for the size of the water.  From the small headwaters the Pichi Leufu gains steam and water as it loses elevation falling into a beautiful canyon that winds its way for miles and provides anglers an angling experience alone in the beauty of Patagonia.

Rio Traful

The Rio Traful has been the river of princes and presidents.  With the only robust population of self-sustaining Atlantic Salmon in Patagonia and a crimson canyon referred to as the Yosemite of South America its not hard to see why the Traful valley has been since its discovery a hundred years ago.  Richard's long standing connections with the estancia owners along the banks of the river give anglers access to the famous waters and a shot its trophy fish.  Its a river as lovely as its surroundings with drool worthy runs and looking glass pools where sight fishing to double digit fish is not uncommon.
